On April 21, 2009, the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center (ACJIC) Commission voted to require the development of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for any substantially revised or new ACJIC information technology system that allows access to personally identifiable information. This action was taken by the Commission to ensure the protection of personal data contained within or accessed by ACJIC systems. ACJIC consulted Global's "Guide to Conducting Privacy Impact Assessments for State, Local, and Tribal Information Sharing Initiatives" when developing the following Privacy Impact Assessments:

Basic Information
ACJIC collects the following information: Information Collected and Stored Automatically -- If you do nothing during your visit but browse through the website, read pages, or download information, we will gather and store certain information about your visit automatically. This information does not identify you personally. We automatically collect and store only the following information about your visit: The internet domain (for example, "xcompany.com" if you use a private Internet access account, or "yourschool.edu" if you connect from a university's domain) and IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) from which you access our website; The type of browser and operating system used to access our site; The date and time you access our site; The pages you visit; and If you linked to the ACJIC website from another website, the address of that website. We use this information to help us make our site more useful to visitors -- to learn about the number of visitors to our site and the types of technology our visitors use. We do not track or record information about individuals and their visits. If You Send Us Personal Information -- If you choose to provide us with personal information -- by filling out a form with your personal information and submitting it to us through our website, or by sending an e-mail to the webmaster -- we use that information to respond to your message and to help us get you the information you have requested. Security:
- This is a State of Alabama computer system. All ACJIC computer systems are subject to monitoring at all times to ensure proper functioning of equipment and systems, including security devices, to prevent unauthorized use and violations of statutes and security regulations, to deter criminal activity, and for other similar purposes. If monitoring of this system reveals possible evidence of violations of criminal statutes, this evidence and any other related information, including identification of the user, may be provided to law enforcement officials.

- Information presented on this site is considered public information and may be distributed or copied. Use of appropriate byline/photo/image credits is requested.
- For site management, information is collected for statistical purposes. This government computer system uses software programs to create summary statistics, which are used for such purposes as assessing what information is of most and least interest, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas.
- For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, this government computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 will evaluate this policy's compact policy whenever it is used with a cookie. The actions IE will take depend on what privacy level the user has selected in their browser (Low, Medium, Medium High, or High; the default is Medium. In addition, IE will examine whether the cookie's policy is considered satisfactory or unsatisfactory, whether the cookie is a session cookie or a persistent cookie, and whether the cookie is used in a first-party or third-party context. This section will attempt to evaluate this policy's compact policy against Microsoft's stated behavior for IE6. Note: this evaluation is currently experimental and should not be considered a substitute for testing with a real Web browser.
