Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center

The most common questions the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center (ACJIC) receives from members of the media and the public are about crime statistics. ACJIC is proud to house Alabama's Statistical Analysis Center (SAC), which collects, analyzes, and disseminates justice data. Statistical Analysis Centers (SACs) are state agencies that contribute to effective state policies through statistical services, research, evaluation, and policy analysis.

Each year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and each state's Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) publish statistics on the seven index crimes included in the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports. In addition to the crime of arson, the seven crimes included in these yearly reports are:

  1. Homicide / Non-negligent Manslaughter
  2. Forcible Rape
  3. Robbery
  4. Aggravated Assault
  5. Burglary
  6. Larceny / Theft
  7. Motor Vehicle Theft

National statistics are reported in the FBI's Crime in the United States publications (see below). Alabama-specific statistics are reported in the Alabama Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) Crime in Alabama publications.

Crime In Alabama Dashboards

Law enforcement agency, county, or city specific information, however, is not included in the Dashboards. This more detailed information is included in ACJIC's Crime in Alabama 2008 publication (below). Please be patient, it may take several seconds for the dashboard to launch (as much as 20 seconds).

Crime In Alabama

You may find the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center's Crime in Alabama publications below. The comprehensive annual publications are published as a part of Alabama's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. Over 99 percent of Alabama's law enforcement agencies participate in the state's UCR program. It is important to note, however, that there are more law enforcement agencies than reporting agencies, as many small agencies report crime through their local county Sheriff's office.
